Bathed in symbolism is correct! This is too blatantly satanic.

I think it’s in poor taste with the times. It’s decadent and rife with dark meaning. It provides no assurance that anything good is coming - which maybe be an accurate interpretation. It took my breath away when I first saw it… like OMG- he’s bathed in blood… his hand looks like the O.J. Simpson bloody glove. It’s hard to un-see it.

Thank you for your excellent reporting as always, jessica !

Just sitting here very happy that so many people are engaging in conversations about art and its subjective nature.

I do as well. I actually think this it is a sign of evolution that the portrait has evolved with the times. Official portraits were historically meant to capture the monarch-as they were. They were not meant to be "art" rather they were meant to be illustrations of reality. But color photography, video, and now other types of media allow for a change in the role of the official portrait. Portrait as art and expression is the next evolution of that change-especially as this will hang in a national gallery in perpetuity. I like that it is art, it captures Charles himself as an artist who permits the same freedom he enjoys for his landscapes to a fellow painter.

Not sure how to include here, but check out the mirror image and the figure in the middle. It’s all over the net.

I went to school for art. I love art. I create art. I'm not blind to the hidden messages artists include in their work. When do we set boundaries of what constitutes as "it's just art". Personal belief: just like Justin Timberlake's new music video - they're not even trying to hide it anymore.

I too welcome the discussion of art.

I think the artist’s own commentary is sly- chosen carefully- but he KNOWS the double meanings of every paint drop; and in so doing, he is clever, brazen, occultic, deceitful.

The work is horrendous at the outset, and has the underbelly of all the darker theories.

I like the portrait…I’m biased…my favorite color is red. And it’s definitely not wimpy or stilted.

I like it too. Took me a bit. Would love to see it in person. I’m sure it has a different effect. You could see what’s in the background better

Interesting way to say he has one foot in the grave and headed to hell.

It’s his reaction when he unveiled it (almost jumping) that made me proper belly laugh!

I noticed that too. Definitely a wince.

It’s fitting. The world has gone mad, with wrong now being right, and everyone pretends all is normal.

First thought, King Charles burning in hell. I enjoy art, but this painting actually made me cringe.

It's weird. And I don't think the Royals usually go for the feeling of weird.

Yes the devil, this one!!!

Fitting for the descendent of Vlad Tepes and the son of a man who wanted to come back as a virus and kill off the world population. Charles and the royals/Rothschilds are satanic. The better discussion might be what happened to Prince Rothschild’s wife? Is she still alive? The public tolerance for this level of blatant demonic display is also what’s terrifying.

I'm getting a "killer of innocence" vibe from this...

So much red (blood).

Jonathan Yeo’s painting reminds me of Hunger Games character Cinna, Katniss' stylist, a rebel hidden in plain sight poking the political system through his work. Looks like the apocalypse to me.
