Very sad. The romantic old-school So Cal/Hollywood dreams are being replaced daily by what is hip in every suburban neighborhood in the US. When we did our Nor Cal remodel in 2007, we hired a Berkeley-based architect who came to our Ca “Ranch” styled home and told us to celebrate what we had bought. Enhance and improve but maintain the original genius of the California Ranch. He further explained that since much of the year is able to be outside (due to our glorious weather), CA Ranch houses were built for that purpose, inside/outside living. We love what we did to our 1950’s ranch and kept the original intent intact!

The fact people still want to invest and live in LA is surprising to me.

Also fair

Yeah, I wouldn’t live in LA if someone gave me a house. I was born there and loved it so much as a kid but it’s changed . No thanks Gavin.

I'm at this point now. Born and raised here, and the intentional destruction that's being allowed to happen in Los Angeles (throughout California actually), is frustrating and infuriating.

Most Americans I meet are really interested in their history, so it amazes me how many people want (and are allowed to) destroy so many of these buildings. So many of these houses are part of LA/Hollywood’s historic fabric. Pratt can say what he likes, but he’s just building square footage that he thinks will hold value so he can flip it further down the line. Family has nothing to do with it.

This is so subjective. IMO this house is ugly. Others obviously love it. The sources here presume there are no structural issues, but no one has seen an inspection. No one ever accused CP and KS of having taste.

lol I totally agree. Not everything old *needs* to be preserved. Many things are objectively beautiful and valuable. That house, imo, was not.

These people could buy a house in Rome and tear down the Colosseum just because it's too old and blights the landscape.

Well it just goes to show that we need to stop idolizing celebrity. Celebrity is gross, leftism destroys everything it touches. Most celebs seem to be leftists. In a comment above the person is right-the new house will be soulless and boring just like its new owners.

CP is def not voting for Biden.

Consider her mother and father /his mother-in-law and father-in-law. He, in particular is a nut job. Years ago used to be likeable at least in movies. Now he’s so cringe I can’t stand to look at him much less hear him speak. Parents do influence their children. He’d tell everyone to get their boosters or go to jail. I see CP voting for that fool who has recently come out behind full term abortions.

A beautiful home, lost :(

I often drive by the gorgeous little bungalow in which I spent my childhood in Austin so that I can remember it (and it’s amazing smokey gold vein mirrors in the hall bathroom) and so that my preschooler can remember it. I know when it’s next sold it will be torn down and an A/B unit will be built in that cookie cutter modern California farmhouse thing the transplants love to do here in Austin - and especially in Austin’s Brentwood/Crestview neighborhood. Appropriately named, huh?

Anyway, can we maybe legalize egging these gross new build homes & then we can call it even? lol (I’m joking)

Heartbreaking. I was about to say similar when I saw your comment. I owned a Craftsman in Deep Eddy/Tarrytown in Austin. All around it they were being torn down and replaced with literal cinderblock stucco covered ugly ass LA looking boxes. I sold my 1917 Craftsman several years back and moved when I felt forced to leave by the California investor takeover that changed Austin. I look it up on Zillow all the time hoping one day I don’t find it gone like my favorite old burger joint down the road, Huts Hamburgers, that had been open since 1939. It’s now gone and condos in its place 😩 I don’t need it legalized to egg them 😂

So much has changed in Austin over the years - makes me sad too! My family is from there and it’s a completely different place these days.

It would be have so easy for them to keep the charm and do tons of upgrades! Build another house next to it. Anything. But tear it all down?! Physically painful to see.

Really. Those people don't care anything about memories or sentiment or history. They make their own history regardless of what anyone else thinks.

I love old architecture and have only ever lived in historic homes. I’ve redone much of the interior of our houses with respect to the year they were built.

That being said, without understanding the structural integrity of the house i cannot place judgement.

Can i also point out everyone’s finger is pointing at Chris Pratt. Did we go back 50 years? Does Mrs. Pratt not have a say? My guess is she may be driving that move to be by her mom.

The new style (more like lack there of) of houses is soulless and boring. It should be a crime to destroy something that timeless & representative of Southern California

What a beautiful home - how devastating that it has been destroyed. Sadly, it was purchased by someone with zero taste or style or appreciation for architecture, design and the importance of retaining historical buildings.

And the story of the Japanese-style home also made me very emotional.

This is why, even if we don’t agree politically, we should all have open minds and I keep coming back. 1) historic architecture is my love 2) I think you’re a kickass mom and your boys seem so sweet and cool.

I am in The Hague as I type this and you would swoon over the architecture! So sad the house you are reporting on was torn down. So awful!

Agree completely! They do this in historic Dallas neighborhoods as well. Very old unique style homes with gigantic trees all chopped down and demolished for the monstrosity McMansions. It’s a travesty!
