This case continues to baffle me. I don’t follow it consistently but when info pops up, nothing seems to clear any of the confusion behind what truly happened that night. Part of me still thinks the living roommates know way more than made public. 🤷🏼‍♀️

I think so too. Absolutely

It’s a pretty odd case all around. I feel there is more to it, I think BK is a guy that looks guilty but I feel it’s not that cut and dry. Part of me believes he’s just a creepy weird guy that got drugs at that house and wrong place wrong time. But if he is found guilty, and only him I feel there is someone or some people that are getting away.

Me too 100%

If you had a genuine alibi, you would get it out there immediately to help your case and prove your innocence..not wait a whole year and then expect people to believe you were looking at the moon and the stars....moon and stars? 🤦

I’m happy to see this isn’t one of the stories you’ve had to let go of. Your in-depth coverage on it has been the best and I still find myself thinking about it all the time, wanting justice for those poor kids.

Thank you Lacey! I’m actually always compiling notes. So next update will be another long one.

JRK’s first article on this hooked me and I’ve stayed on top of updates ever since. Important things to know:

- the amount of DNA on the knife sheath was tiny. It’s called touch DNA. I cannot explain it in correct detail but The Presumption Podcast on YouTube “The Genealogy of Brian Kohberger” is a great episode. The co-hosts are active lawyers and walk through all the DNA details which show how the dna will likely not hold up in court and how this whole use of genealogy is new and there aren’t proper standards setup for being used in legal cases.

- why is this coming out a year later? The defense team has submitted 13+ supplemental requests for all the evidence the prosecution has and still do not have everything they have asked for.

- the phone pings are weak evidence, they do not put anyone near the house they put them within a huge mile wide radius in the area

- remember when WSU mom Kim said she thought sugar babies were involved? One of the girls/friends from the dateline series was discovered to have a sugar baby account (google this if you don’t know what it is). I don’t know how this relates but I found it interesting.

- so many documents are sealed due to the fact there is a confidential informant and unsealing the docs poses a threat to this person’s life. This is listed multiple times throughout documents.

I don’t know if he’s guilty or not but this whole case smells bad and feels off. It has from the beginning. Things are being hidden. Why is there a confidential informant if it was one crazy guy? Not to mention the affidavit makes NO SENSE. Their whole timeline is weird.

Also Jess, remember in the beginning, how some people were pointing fingers at the head of the church in Moscow being involved? Guess who just interviewed that guy? Tucker Carlson! Doug Wilson was just on his show. I haven’t watched fully yet, but my jaw dropped when I saw that.

Thank you for this breakdown! Yes, I remember all of this. So happy you shared it in bullet points for others to reference.

Doug Wilson was on Tucker!?

Expand full comment

Yes! The topic was Christian nationalism.

Also for anyone who wants to stay on top of updates my favorite source is @trucrimebuff on TikTok. She goes through all documents as they drop and explores lots of theories. When she first started she seemed very undecided if BK did it and as she has been super invested and seen all of the court shenanigans it’s pretty clear her bias now is that he is innocent.

Andrea Burkhart (also a lawyer and actually a defense lawyer in the general WA area) has had some good YouTube videos on the case as well. She had a great one posted on this recent motion. Highly recommend.

I regret to say I always question law enforcement since learning how often times they are connected and participate in criminal activity/cover-up themselves. As far as the sheath found, it could have been easily planted. In my gut, I believe the roommates and family know more than we are being told. i’d like to know more about the University. I’m suspicious of it and who are the powers that shouldn’t be running that place. Maybe my imagination is running wild on me, but something feels corrupt there, along with the very religious community dominating that town gives me the heebiejeeies. I’ve enjoyed reading your articles Jessica on this case (actually all your articles!) because you always have a little or a lot of extra info provided and a very different take. Its like working on a challenging puzzle and getting excited when I’ve pieced together a small section. It’s also very telling how trusted you are in receiving your info from undisclosed sources. Keep on keep on, I’m here for it all! 🙏

Thank you, Audrey. I actually have some wild notes for a longer follow up piece. It’s just a matter of finding a time to sit down and arrange it all in an organized way. Some of these details will stun you. And certainly add credibility to some of your theories expressed here.

I will be anxiously awaiting for your longer piece Jessica. I honestly don’t know how you have the time to put out as much content as you do. The atrocities many Universities have been participating in for years, especially the Ivy League schools - combined with the religious factor and drugs in this community AND the removal of the house feels chilling to me.

I've loved your political coverage, but as a none US resident it's great to something else again

Who says his phone had to be in his possession? He could have left it somewhere, had a burner phone and gone back to retrieve his phone later…and I agree about the surviving roommates…they know way more than has been reported.

Expand full comment

I guess my biggest issue is his behavior once he reached his parent's house. Wearing gloves and the way he disposed of trash. Just weird. That would be hard to explain.

I’m always wondering about no blood Tracks on the snow…

Expand full comment

No blood prints ANYWHERE outside the house...Nothing in the car, no footprints inside the house either if I remember correctly?? How could he be so clean in such a short amount of time??? Defies logic

Expand full comment

He could simply be a germ a phobe. I have a friend who still washes his groceries with a mask afraid of covid. Slightly cuckoo does not make a murderer.

Expand full comment

Did they forget about the knife sheath found in one of the victims rooms that has been proven to carry his/familys DNA???

Expand full comment

They are going to argue the sheath was planted

Expand full comment

Do you know if they would have to prove who allegedly planted the sheath? Or at least make an accusation?

Expand full comment

I think defense plans to make the case that he wasn’t there through phone data etc, so it can’t have been left by him but “planted” or “placed” I think defense introduced that wording in official court documents a while back. They also implied that the cell phone data has been destroyed or withheld as prosecution has still yet to give it to defense yet seems to have used it for his arrest . Ann stated she planned to prove the alibi by those reports.

Yup

hopefully they argue unsuccessfully!!! Ha!

Expand full comment

Exactly, and there’s even more physical evidence of his guilt that will get him convicted.

Totally agree! He needs to wipe that smugness off his face!! GRRRRRR!!!!!

What is it? What do you know that we don’t in this gag order case?

Alibi seems like a reach. But I also still don't think he acted alone...

Agree

It would make sense if the sheath was planted. It makes no sense in such a calculated crime that it would accidentally be left behind. I hate to say it, but I don’t trust the cops in this situation. I think BK was somehow connected or involved but not alone. I think he was set up as a fall guy.

I want to know who the surviving roommates called and texted during the 9 hours before 911 was called. I also want to see the text messages. I cannot wrap my head around why someone would wait that long to call 911. My guess is they were selling drugs and had to get all of it out of the house before the police arrived.

Any fellow Law Nerds in here? 💜 Emily D. Baker's coverage guides the way for me on this one. After watching the expert testify, I don't think they did the survey incorrectly at all. Ann Taylor is an excellent attorney, even if I think her client's guilty.

Love Emily!! She really is the best.

WTH?!!! What about the sheath, his phone being turned off and all the pings on the WiFi?!

It’s going to be interesting!

I have tried to approach this case by not making any determination of his guilt until I hear all the evidence but I will say it is his own defense team that keeps turning me towards thinking he is guilty… also it was his team who said everything should be filed under seal yet they continually do not do that … also his team influencing potential jurors with their survey… how can their expert know they can prove the evidence the prosecution has as wrong when they haven’t seen it… lastly this is not an alibi in my opinion they said nothing about where he was during the time of the murders… it is quite possible he was driving around so much that night to make it hard to determine what he was up to… anyway I just wanted to say that for me his team is pointing me towards guilt not anything the prosecution is doing

Expand full comment

I thought the same about the jury survey until I watched the expert testimony. Then it seemed to me like the prosecutor and judge were buddy buddy, which is a red flag.

Expand full comment

Makes sense this is his alibi cause he can’t deny he was in his car with all the security cameras catching him. That said, this isn’t a good alibi.

Expand full comment

But then we need to look at the 2 jack’s alibis because they were some of the last to see K and M. JS alibi was he drove to a family cabin alone in the middle of the night while JD lived within feet of the house, didn’t answer the 10 plus calls(phone turned off or on silent)and stated he was asleep during the murders. Both taken off the POI almost immediately. Not saying anyone is guilty but middle of the night alibis can sound weak if a murder occurs and you have to say where you were.

Expand full comment

They were both cleared by Police with their alibis so from my viewpoint they aren’t in the conversation anymore

Expand full comment

I guess my point is the alibis and the difficulty in having one that satisfies everyone’s idea of what a good one is. Not saying anyone is or isn’t guilty just comparing alibis

Quite the poet, that one.
