Footnotes on the pair's fashionable jaunt mingling polished ponytails, unique fashion notes, racial controversies, a Queen's demotion, and a grandson's rejected apology
Prince Albert apologized for slavery 180 years ago. Where's the thanks to England for abolishing slavery long before most other countries (including the US). People need to ditch the victim mentality and move on.
Thank you for this write-up! Like you I think she killed it in the fashion department on this trip and this is the best she has ever looked. As you mentioned, I would love to hear perspectives from other people in the Commonwealth. It is a complicated issue for sure. I think something many people don’t think about or perhaps know is that these yours are coordinated with the local governments so it is not just W & K’s Team that would have set up the open air car ride for example. On another site, someone pointed out and had pictures to prove that this is a common thing to do in military parades in Jamaica and showed pictures of 2 black generals riding in a similar car. I realize how the picture looked and in hindsight I m sure they regret it. Just pointing out sometimes the media takes a particular spin and the pictures don’t always show the context. I think they did a great job highlighting each of the countries. I got one never knew anything about Belize and now it is on my bucket list!
Thanks for this eye-opening & well balanced article. I've never really been a fan of the royal couple, but you portray them so well I'm intrigued now. How does she look so good in every oufit & style?! Her confidence definitely shines through..I absolutely love the pink!
But also, aside from polished styling - how is she never photographed making an even remotely awkward expressoin? Never a single hair a stray. She is always SO perfectly put together. Which I find both incredible AND irritating. lol
Very true, can't help but feel a little annoyed at her perfection. I think she's come a long way, she really does shine through these photos & seems genuinely happy. You can't fake that. Spot on with smiling with her whole face too..love that!
Yes, they seem to be in a very good and happy place in their lives currently. It's nice to see after so much scandal and drama with this family and the marriages throughout the years.
Thank you for covering all angles of this trip, recognising the complicated relationship the public have with the royal family, especially those of us in the 'colonies', where we are raised to see them as the ultimate celebrities while knowing their position in our culture was taken by force and violence. And their current position, and wealth, which they flaunt in public, came off the back of slave labour. It's an uncomfortable fact and (the beloved by many, hated by many) Queen Lizzie has done nothing to address it in her lifetime, despite many other good deeds. Will Charles be the one to make the radical steps needed towards reconciliation? Only time will tell...
I'm always interesting to hear from people in other regions, about their take on the monarchy. I"ve heard this point of view (which is very fair) from many. But also talked in depth to a member of the Bob Marley family this past summer who grew up in Jamaica and explained that the British influence (in her opinion) gave them an air of nobility they cherished.
Her perspective was unique but fascinating. I should try to interview her about this now that it directly involves this tour controversy!
Her yellow dress was her best dress ever in my opinion. Theres no getting away though that the tour was a disaster and I cannot believe how poorly researched and inflexible they continue to show themselves to be. Im still cringing over the open car drive
This is great! I’ll be honest. I can’t imagine wearing anything but flip flops and bathing suit coverups anywhere in Jamaica so I enjoyed seeing her high fashion!
Kate is dreamy. I agree with you that she is a beautiful representation of aging with grace and remaining lovely AND natural (no small feat in 2022).. She somehow comes across accessible and relatable.

Yes I totally agree with this.

Thanks Jess. She’s gorgeous! I would have been a hot sweaty mess in those outfits for sure 🙄 how does she do it!
now that you mention it, I've NEVER seen her with a hint of sweat. HOW?
Love your break down x

Complicated is right.

Her yellow dress is gorgeous.
I’ve really enjoyed reading through this write up. Thank you
Thank you Lindsey!
I wish I could have snagged that dress for my Caribbean trip in December!! It’s perfect!
But, my favorite look was definitely the last one, those crisp white pants with that red top was a great look!
Thanks for all you do, Jessica!
I really loved the fact that she saved the vintage jacket from college.

And this is why we aren't queen. Hah!

I agree.
Gahhhh I could swoon over the royals all day
Another 10 out of 10 for me. Bravo for having a real voice amidst the noise.
Maybe she really is that cool
and collected 😑
That seems probable. Because it sure would be hard to fake it for this long.
