I could not be more grateful that you are and will continue to cover this election. I so appreciate your ability to challenge the reader to look at all angles. Seriously, I just decided I will have my kids read your substack as a lesson in critical thinking. Thank you

This is the kindest compliment of all! 😭

"They choked the interest right out of their own audience by becoming painfully predictable." - Wow!

As someone who used to enjoy reading articles in VF and Rolling Stone, because they felt edgy, mysterious and fun, I could not have explained the shift in these publications better myself. I don't even bother reading any of them anymore because I'm always bored by the constant hammering of a liberal/mainstream perspective (I'm saying this as someone who has always been left leaning). Substack, with it's unfiltered perspectives and story telling is where it is at these days. I want to be challenged and I want a piece to make me think and shift how I view the world. Thank you for the superb article!

Exactly!

It’s like they’re all listening to Michael Rapaport then removing the vitriol just enough to sell more garbage.

This felt like a VIP sneak-peek into your curious mind- so fun to read. It sounded like your intuition really kicked in during the car interview, something more primal protecting you for someone who clearly had ill intentions. When he asked the question about your vaccination status all my covid-era trauma resurfaced and I felt the anxiety creep back in as I was reading. Pretty brazen for him to ask this outright.

I also loved how you wove in the quotes from the article, the part where RFK was hopeful about it being the first nice VF article is shattering and cleverly echoed in your own experience when your instincts detect the trap Joe had set for you. Thank you for sharing so honestly- your ability to view a scene from multiple perspectives creates the layers and nuance we are all craving right now.

I was instantly transported into the role of silent but present sidekick. Your writing is honest and speaks to those of us who like true things- emotion, mood, suspicion and reflection. Divine appointments seem to be presenting themselves to you in a special way. Keep going!

I'm so glad you see it too. It feels surreal - how these things keep aligning. Wait until chapter 3!

You are a literary ballerina... one whose words gently bounce through the mind while reading, with intellectual muscle and discipline behind each word. Reading your piece is reminiscent of the "old" VanityFair, which I anticipated reading each month until it became just another predictably biased magazine.

Jessica Reed Kraus's avatar

Thank you! Wait till we get to pt. 3!

A literary ballerina. I love how evocative that statement is!

Love the “literary Ballerina” 💪🏼🙏❤️

I want to vote for him but Tucker maybe being Trumps VP is such a vibe hahaha a funny entertaining vibe. I use the word vibe ironically because I’m 36 and just wanted to say it but im down to clown with RFK

Kennedy has been draining the swamp for 40 years for real, without even getting into politics

Whereas, Trump IS the swamp - https://youtu.be/zDoo3tXWRJI

Trump sealed JFK documents and not only indicted Assange, but his administration tried to kidnap and assassinate him. He added $9.5 trillion to debt, more than any President in history and his CARES act gave $500 billion to Blackrock.

Excellent piece. Yet another "expose" on the utter worthlessness of the media.

My favorite part of the article tho:

‘Sir, you gotta put shoes on, please,' he says, motioning to Kennedy's bare feet.

An aide quickly digs his formal dress shoes out of a suitcase, and Kennedy yanks them on, looking faintly ridiculous as he strides onto the ferry in neon trunks and black dress shoes.”

I LOVED this part and probably why I liked him barefoot on the plane 😜

My favorite part too. Had I been there, that would be the highlight of my whole trip! I live for the image of dress shoes & board shorts.

Gosh, I really love your writing. It reminds me of why I majored in journalism in high school, but never went on to get a degree. Because writing meant something and had passion until it became whatever the heck it is now. I adore you. Thank you. ❤️

Bridget Wood's avatar

Yes! I was thinking the same - this is the writing as a teen that had me hooked, and I did go on to get a journalism degree, but never used it in the field...I could feel the Corporate-interested whitewash even then.

This was such a fun piece to read. Both entertaining and insightful. So looking forward to the upcoming articles!

I love the RFK quote from the article: “You wouldn't be sitting there if you were willing to depart from official orthodoxy,' he tells me, 'so there's a self-censorship that goes on.'"

I’m enjoying learning more about him as a Presidential candidate but I do appreciate his value in our current society. Continuing to speak up for what he believes in and is SO against the current grain.

I loved every bit of this. Any and every scum will wither when exposed to even a sliver of light. That’s so scary to those who have much to hide, especially when truth is a currency and they’re all smoke and mirrors. I admire your tenacity, keep going!

Wow….why am I not surprised by the bias of this man’s article on RFK. Independent thinkers scare the so called “elites.” Stay true to who you are, I love your honesty!

This is incredible. Why wife introduced me to your work and I have been following since. I respect everything you are doing for journalism and am extremely grateful for your stance against mainstream media. There is. I rhetoric to your prose, only truth, honest and an authentic voice. I share your work with everyone, whether they want to hear it or not haha. Thank you and cheers!

I’m with you Penny! And the terrible conversion rate 🇦🇺 Still best money I spend. Wish there was a monthly HIH glossy mag 😍

Wouldn’t that be AMAZING?!! Now that would be a delivery that you would actually wait by the mailbox for 🔥

Another Aussie here! I came for Johnny Depp and keep telling myself that I will unsubscribe soon, but I’m so hooked, I can’t bring myself to do it!

“Despite an array of more enticing subplots attached to a Kennedy running for office, his views on Covid and Big Pharma remain a steady point of focus for robotic interests recycled by mainstream media, drafted by gutless puppets who’s main goal is to consistently reduce complicated figures so they can be digested and judged by the laziest parts of society”

Wow. This whole piece. But I have to say Jessica, you had me at gutless puppets and laziest parts of society. An infinitely sad but true state of our world- which I truly believe is shifting with every piece of engaging, authentic & intelligent writing like this.

This is why people are drinking your words like water. We have been so damn thirsty for truth and candor for SO MANY years. I’m actually glad the first interview was canceled- this is FAR better than you could’ve dreamed and you deserve every bit of it. Every time you’ve gone against the grain and spoken your truth, it encourages others to get the brave to do the same. And THAT is how we turn the tides from lazy to engaged. One courageous act at a time. Thank you for sharing the stories and truth we all want to hear. Waiting by the mailbox with my popcorn 🍿

Great writing Jessica!! I’m reading Joan Didion right now and its making me think of you. You’re truly embodying an old school aesthetic, wit and grit that we yearn for. And your going dark and deep as only a Scorpio can. No one judges the mediocre like a Scorpio. I’m here for it. 🔥

Jessica Reed Kraus's avatar

thank you, Selene, for noticing! I LOVE your comment about the mediocre. Wait till we get to the compound!
