If the general public understood how the copyright law works around rights of publicity for content, this whole thing would not have ever had the oxygen it does. When two people consensually make content on a camera they own, they are 50/50 owners of the content. In order for a third party to be able to publish it legally, the owners have to consent. When it comes to adult content, in addition to consenting to the content being published, all parties in the content must provide identification proving they are over 18 years of age (18 U.S.C Sec 2257.). Vivid would have never been able to legally post the video and pass 2257 verification. Ray J is not lying that there was a deal. He sadly got the unfortunate end of it.
Edit: Personal opinion - I have long thought it was time for the Kardashians to admit they spun the deal for the medial. The truth always comes out. No one who buys their products would care that much now. KK has grown up and does actual work to help the wrongfully convicted and uses her money and platform for many good things. I would love to see her come clean and restore Ray J's reputation.
If what Ray J is saying is true (and it appears he has the receipts) then what the Kardashians did was monetize a lie and then deflect blame by playing the victims. That’s the issue here- justice. Ray J feels his reputation has been tarnished unfairly. Ye believes he is unjustly being kept from his kids and his business deals by being labeled crazy. Note how the Kardashians are repeating the same behavior. It’s in their play book. Get what they can from the situation and then dispose of whoever or whatever no longer serves them. I’m happily out of the loop with the Kardashian stuff. I’ve not watched their show nor bought their stuff (if not by accident). But Ray J caught me by surprise and I’m fascinated by his side of the story. This year has been one where the chickens have come home to roost.

If rehashing a 15 year old sex tape “scandal” is the most engaging storyline they could think of for Kim, then she has to be the most boring human on the planet. I guess if your whole existence is to be a human product and sell shit, having an identity and personality doesn’t really serve you.
The question isn’t “how much longer are we going to ignore evidence of their deeply depleted morals;” the question is how we can go about taking away their “blindly profitable audience” once and for all. I’m afraid this scandal won’t be enough even though Ray J is patently telling the truth about the unthinkable.
